I am excited to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Shamokin.
Let me start by saying that I am not a politician. I am simply a fellow, hard-working citizen and businessman who is tired of the status quo.
I am as frustrated with the direction our city has been going as most of you are, and I want to use my experience and knowledge to move Shamokin forward.
My number one concern will be to clean up our city and regain fiscal responsibility. We are not going to attract businesses or investors if we cannot show them that we are actively working to improve the conditions in City Hall, our downtown, and our neighborhoods.
My goal will be to restore integrity, accountability, and transparency to our city.
One of my main goals will be to end the status quo. What we have been doing is not working. We need to change what we do and how we do it.
Change does not always come easy or without pain. Nothing worthwhile ever does.
I will work together with you and other like-minded people to help reshape and change the attitude of our city. Just because our city has declined over the years does not mean it must continue down
I will work with the council to increase code enforcement. We desperately need to step up our game to hold derelict property owners responsible for their unwillingness and/or failure to maintain their properties.
I am tired of us, the taxpayers, becoming financially responsible for someone else's neglect. I would rather put more effort into enforcement than spend more tax dollars on demolition.
We have a huge blight and garbage issue in Shamokin, and we need to change the way we fight it.
I will work with our police department to ensure they have the tools and manpower to enforce our laws and ordinances. Shamokin has become like the Wild West, with people thinking they can do anything they want without consideration for our rules or others' rights.
Those days must come to an end if we want to move forward and attract more people to our city and change how others perceive Shamokin.
I will work hand-in-hand with our city treasurer and tax collector to ensure that our tax rolls are as up to date as possible. We need to make sure that everyone who is supposed to be paying taxes is doing so. We all need to pay our fair share or be held accountable if we don't.
Along with my business experience, I have also been actively involved in Shamokin’s progress, serving on numerous boards and commissions that directly affect our community:
- City of Shamokin Redevelopment Authority
- City of Shamokin Housing Authority
- Shamokin-Coal Township Joint Sewer Authority
- City of Shamokin Mayor’s Advisory Board
- City of Shamokin Landlord Tenant Hearing Board
- City of Shamokin Zoning Board (Chairman and Vice Chairman)
- Elected for Shamokin Government Study
I’ve dedicated my time to our youth and civic organizations, including coaching local youth sports, serving on various boards like St. Edward’s Church Council, and acting as a past Treasurer for both Shamokin CYO Basketball and Hillside Coaches.
I am a current member and past treasurer of SABER, our local business organization. I am also an active participant in the Why Not Shamokin movement, which shares the goal of revitalizing our city.
